Prenatal development

Important milestones in the prenatal development:

Day 22*: The baby’s heart starts to beat – at a rate of 110 beats per minute.
Week 4: Arms and legs begin to form. Blood cells take shape. A heartbeat can already be detected via ultrasound.
Week 6: All major organs are developing. Brain activity can be detected.
Week 8: The baby’s arms, hands, fingers, feet and toes are fully formed, while finger- and toenails begin to develop.
Week 10: All the organs are present and will continue to develop.
Week 14: Mother starts to feel fetal movement.
Week 21: The child can now survive outside of the womb (with medical help).

* All time measurements are starting at conception.
