Abortion

Abortion in the context of hormonal contraception and the spiral/IUD

“Instead of needing an abortion, people should be more careful and use contraception to prevent pregnancy.”

Though widely believed, this idea is false, since all hormonal contraceptives, but also the copper coil, can lead to an abortion in the earliest stage of pregnancy. How? Though most of these contraceptive methods try to prevent fertilization (mostly by thickening the cervical mucus, which prevents sperm from entering the uterus), this is not 100% successful. If the fertilization happens – a new human life has started. Due to the thickened cervical mucus, the embryo cannot implant in the uterus, therefore the embryo dies and is washed out, without the woman ever knowing that she was pregnant for a short period of time.
